A Trick of the Mind

from the edge of the shadowy forest

a figure stepped forth

with a shimmering veil that danced

like the lights of the north

she pointed somewhere deep within

where darkness reigns over the moon

where heroes, kings, and captains

dare not venture any time soon

the figure flashed her eyes

and for a moment I could glimpse

the diamond path that led afar

and left me thoroughly convinced

and so I ran to see the road

where shadow spells took hold

with secrets dancing through the dark

and wisdom left untold

no boundaries held me back

but for the one inside my mind

till the figure appeared beside me

and  said 'no need to hide;

follow me through shadow trees

and phantom silhouettes

to a haven free of stresses,

sorrows, heartbreak, judgment, debt'

I dare not pinch my wrist, thought I

with the one thought I could spare

for beauty such as this must be a dream

but I won't dare

to take a chance you must accept

the chance there is to lose

and if the choice is this or that

then this is what I choose

So for twenty days we wandered

caring not for the ghouls and ghosts

drifting all around us

like chaotic confused smoke

I nearly stopped to say

'is this some trick you've tried to play?'

when just then ceremony bells

chimed softly down the way

and that's when I saw the paradise

of which the sorceress had spoke

where valkaryies stood welcoming

with diamonds on their cloaks

'have I paid the greatest price

to gaze upon this eternal bliss?'

'of course', said the one who lead me there

then she left me with a kiss

I lingered there for quite some time

a hundred years or more

but eventually the page must turn

and the time must come to mourn

I woke upon that spot

where that figure stepped from the trees

and I just closed my eyes and whispered

'take me back there please'

Really appreciated reading this. It took me to places, spaces I've been before. A reminder... of connection. Eternal.  Truly enjoyed.

Course, youre speaking of a trick of the mind. Material reality, a trick of the mind for all of us, perhaps? I dunno, I'm getting off track...

The Search For Eldorado

Some find it, some dream of it, some believe it waits after death - paradise. :D
