Surely Today, Maybe Forever

away with your prophecies I've had enough
your kingdom has fallen and folded your bluff
pack up your boots for the road is so tough
it twists and it crumbles to spite you

my spirit was spent on the days I miss most
picking up rocks and exploring the coast
but every last memory's now just a ghost
condemned me to tossing and turning

where pastures run smoothly on rolling green hills
where sunlight meets mist and the lakes all lay still
that's where I called home but now I've had my fill
now I'm just lookin' to wander

My senses are eager, my memories gone
the home that I'm seeking lay somewhere beyond
the cold winds that bellow from twilight to dawn
slowin' my feet to a stagger

Hopped on a train that was headed down south
the miles are now many between me and my doubts
wherever it stops I'll go find a nice house
and maybe a friend I can trust
