Duality

What is this spirit, burning bright?
This light that fends off the enigmatic night?
It's glow emanates safety, like an ever burning sentry.
It's heat, like a fathers warm embrace.

It will beckon you.
"Come close, child", it will say.
It will welcome a touch.
Only to lash out with sharp pain.

What is this spirit, so dual?
This cradle of life?
This destroyer of worlds?
How can you ever resist it's pull?

A benevolent temptress.
A malevolent god.
It welcomes with warmth,
and scars with a searing whip

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is the first poem I've written in a long long time. Since like, 2nd grade. I think I wrote one about Santa Clause.
