Improving Hong Cong's Court Structure

Introduction

There are inefficiencies prevalent almost everywhere in Hong Kong's court structure. For instance, people have to sit and wait for hours only to collect a document. Besides, the number of staff members is not up to the mark either, nor are the Judges. Sometimes, a case may take 20 months to be heard. Furthermore, the court proceedings are expensive and slow simultaneously. Hence, the court structure of Hong Kong needs to be developed.

Solutions to Improve Hong Cong's Court Structure

It is time to improve the court structure of Hong Kong. In this regard, the following things must be immediately implemented.

  • - Digitalising the transcripts: The Judges should sanction the parties to get a printed transcript. However, voice recognition software packages and transcription tools can assist.
  • - The legal department should be renovated with additional individuals, further KPIs, an extra obligation to service, and the distribution of a quick, trustworthy, and competent court service.
  • - CPD or obligatory yearly legal technology: It was made known to specific US states. This will ensure dynamism as far as the court proceedings are concerned.
  • - Founding partnership with digital inventors and attorneys: It will guarantee a user-friendly and quicker and more proficient system.
  • - Additional Subsidy: More monetary funds will abbreviate the waiting time for court trials.
  • - The legal department should be renovated with additional individuals, further KPIs, an extra obligation to service, and the distribution of a quick, trustworthy, and competent court service.
  • - Virtual/video legal proceedings: The legal proceedings can be conducted virtually.
  • - The notes can be taken by the transcribers and additional assistants, not by the Judges.
  • - The non-practicing barristers can assist in writing verdicts to make space for Judges' time.
