Poor Ophelia! [Unrhymed Poetenry: Poems of Ten Lines]

A rose she is,

A child in heart,

A toy she becomes,

In the hands of Polonius and Laertes!

Her lover Hamlet detests her,

He throws her love away,

Like the garbage in the bin!

Utterly shattered like a glass appears she!

Hamlet kills her father, Polonius,

Poor Ophelia goes mad, drowns herself, dies!

No freedom, no choice, betrothed as property, simple wit  put under stresses unimaginable: used by sires, rejected falsely by future husband (oh no, the marriage is off) a state that is Denmark rotten, Shakespeare used her for dramatic and emotional relief, as with all his characters,.
