“My grandfather´s couch”

My grandfather was quite a character. When I was a kid, my mother used to take me to my grandparent’s house, because I couldn’t assist to kindergarten, so they would take care of me. I remember that the first thing that I used to see when I arrived to their house was my grandfather sitting on his couch. He used to smile and say hello, never leaving the couch. I used to sit right next to him and listen whatever funny story he had to tell me; he taught me to play domino, poker and also to kill flies, all of that just sited on his couch; now that I think about it I can say my grandfather was a multi-task man. On Sundays we used to eat dinner there, with all my family; cousins, aunts, uncles, my grandmother, and so on; that was the day you could see that my grandfather moved from the couch to the table, just to eat and when he had finished he went back to the couch. Spring, summer, autumn or winter, no matter the season, he was always sitting there, whit his thick glasses and a smile on his face. It was weird when the couch was empty, but you knew that it wouldn’t last too much, so you couldn’t sit there. Everyday my grandfather used to wake up, take breakfast and then he went right up to his couch. It was a big black couch, kind of old, but I know that he didn’t care about that. Right beside the couch there was a compartment where he could keep some stuff, and especially in that compartment there was all the things my grandfather needed to be there, the TV control, a booklet with his alphabet soup and the fly swatter. He had a marked routine; only after 10 pm he left the couch and went to his bed, to rest for the next day. I learned too much from him, for me he was the wisest man in the world; he was an extremely patient man. When he got sick and went to the hospital, the couch got dust on it, you knew that it wasn’t normal, it felt weird. He never came back from the hospital, that was too hard for everybody because you knew that no one ever would fill the space that he left on the couch, that old and beautiful black couch.
