-Red Poppies

Red Poppies

Red poppies,

hundreds upon thousands.

Headstones, white...

hundreds upon thousands.

Tear drops...

Mothers', fathers',

Sister's, brothers',

Friends' and comrades'.

Family and friends,

hoping never to forget--

loved ones

lost to war.

Veterans...

hoping to forget

atrocities of war.

Yet remembering.

People....  respect these warriors.

Honor their service.

Remember those gone ahead.

Cherish those who came home.

Author's Notes/Comments:

For Veteran's Day.
Thanks to all the Vets out there.

PS:  I've been searching for a midi for this song:  Fifty Thousand Names    I would love to have it as the background music with this poem.  If anyone knows where to find it, please let me know.   Thanks!

My God! I can't believe no one has commented on this!! This is wonderful! I remember when we would recite that poem about poppies in school, "In Flander's Field the poppies grow..." It would almost make me cry. Kim, this is an eloquent attempt to capture what we all should feel spontaneously. I love it.

Thanks, Kat-o-th'-Ozarks. Never miss the opportunity to thank ANY vet, or the guy who merely LOOKS like a vet, with ribbons or badges on his jacket. You never know how very much the slightest recognition and thanks may mean to the right man at the right time. Thanks, again. rEXX

"Poe" I'm not, nor "Rich" am I,
