The Childs Way

I have come to know

A place I should have been

A long, long time ago.

To the wonder of childhood

Along a grownup’s road.

Childish delight in the joy,

Of preening and prancing

At the regard of a boy

Whose interest I’ve caught

With sweet and gentle ploy.

I pick the innocent's fight

To side with the weak, to

Turn toward the light,

Insisting on goodness

As only a child might.

Relearning lost lessons

From those that I love.

Who treat my confessions

With tenderness and care,

When the child’s way beckons.

Oh, idealist youth awaken

There are changes to be made

The less traveled way taken

To your dreamed of day...

A time that won't be forsaken.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This one's about coming full circle and rediscovering that the things we valued as children are the things that give meaning to our lives as adults.

vry good analogy. I too have just recognized the full circle concept of my own life. It was good to see it written. Thank you!

This is the most lovely poem that I have read all day~ and, I have read alot of them! Not only is it well-written, but the subject matter couldn't be more right on! Children seem to get it right from the beginning... then, unfortunately life takes them away, and eventually (hopefully) we are able to come back to that simpleness that once brought us so much joy. This was so beautifully worded~ I am so looking forward to more of your posts, Karen!

Good poem! No matter how old we get, there is always a child in us somewhere, and that's great!
