My Grandmother´s Wig

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about my grandmother is her wig. My grandmother was a prideful woman, she could be considered a narcissistic person, and she loved herself as much as she could but no one could say that she did not love her family. My grandmother and grandfather came from families that owned nothing, yet they made everything. Neither hard work nor sacrifices were new to her, she put her children well-being above all else. When I ask my father his childhood he mentions that they lacked many things but love was not one of them, his most fond memory of my grandmother comes from his 10th birthday, his mother decided to take him and only him to a “Pollo loco”. Here he got the chance of getting a full chicken all for himself, he remembers that even though my grandmother had yet to eat anything she did not ask him for a single piece until he was completely full. Sadly my grandmother end up suffering from a disease, this disease was breast cancer. Hearing this news affected my grandmother, but it did not affect her as much as it could. She was a woman of faith, she believed in God and God´s plan, thus she never let her disease drag her down. After some time she started with Chemo therapy, and of course she lost her entire hair. She loved her hair, she had golden hair that showed her European origins, losing her pride affected her more than anything, she started using her wig after that. She used her wig all the time, she always said that she was just too lazy to take it off, but we all knew the truth, she was ashamed of losing her hair. Some people that knew her would find it funny that she was more bothered about losing her hair than about having cancer. The moment my grandmother lost the fight to cancer was a few years after my grandfather died from diabetes, some think that this was the main reason why the cancer progressed so quick. She was very weak at the end of her life, but she did not let others feel pity of her, she was a proud woman even in the end.
