Slowly Racing Side by Side

Meet me in the alley we’ll try to tally

all the stars in the sky smiling

Dinner on the stove rain comin in droves

all the drops are excited to finally find

a friend

or two

cos it’s been a long journey

down

Meet me in the morning issueing a warning

hide us in this box from the gestapo

Hold you in my arms cars screaming alarms

to give away our position close

your eyes

to hear

silence between our minds

loud

I think I’ll be fine

once I

get a grip on what’s happening

Then maybe we’ll try

to find

another place for this passioning

But I won’t supply

the sky

with typical everyday blasphemy

Cos babe you and I

need time

to buckle our love down fastening

Meet me on the corner where a little warmer

atmosphere can cushion us

Tell it to the air we’re sellin our care

to the highest bidder who passes by

then we

can have

all the best strawberry

pie

Meet me on the distance as our hearts listen

to each other rhythming

Miles in between seem so obscene

yet I can feel you lying right

here next

to me

and all the pieces fit

whole

I think I’ll be fine

once I

figure out how to stop panicking

Then maybe we’ll try

to find

this oddity they call sanity

But I won’t supply

the sky

with reasons to cause calamity

Cos babe you and I

need time

to write our scarytale happily

Tonight I find myself in you find yourself in me

Tonight there’s no second guessing game over-whelming

Tonight separation becomes adjacency tether

Tonight the Tortoise and the Hare race home together

and no one will ever

know who wins

cos once it ends

it just begins

So when -- we go -- into -- our own

personal dreamscapes

home sweet home in our imaginations

That’s where -- we’ll have -- a place -- to nap

underneath the stars

somewhere far away from obligations

And there -- we can -- forget -- this land

the darkness invading

snug and warm, safe in our dream vacations

Some day -- will end -- won’t need -- pretend

nothing in our way

hang this poem over the fireplaces

Author's Notes/Comments:

2006 I wrote this for my Lexieberry Pie (the love of my life). I have yet to translate the music from my head to my guitar.
