do the stars contemplate their position?

immobilized by distance

they’ve moved so far

yet nothing is closer

except space dust

and the occasional comet

maybe a probe

if chance feels so inclined

from that one rock

just one

with enough sense to build

technology to explore various depths

but not enough to grasp

how rare

such a planet truly is

how unlikely the right rock is formed

the right size

the right place

the right makeup

the right combination

the right star and moon

one in a trillion

among a trillion candidates

even if life chanced upon

another circling stone

another trillian chances

stand between sentience

and mere existence

existence by chance

still relies

on careful planning methods

guidelines, rules, laws, and limits

yet maintains

the universe just happened

the laws so well in place

gravity and inertia

numbers on a thousand dice

and yet so perfectly

the following rolls

fall

in place

chaos balanced

given enough time

it all works out

are billions of years even enough?

timelines distorted

shifted

not even the earth can say

but a few thousand years

science must have it right by now

Yep, still lazy with things like punctuation and capitalization. . . oh well.
