The Khasi girl

In her ethnic dress,

cute smile on her face,

chubby cheeks, dark eyes;

Silent workers attending

duty round the clock,

assisting nuns

with their hard work.

School-chapel spic n span

it was Maryann,

Washing, ironing nuns uniform;

Consoling, nursery kids out of form,

they were the Khasi girls of Shillong,

Working parents busy outdoors,

terribly hard pressed on cores

slipped fees

with ease in school bags;

Knowing the responsible Khasi girls,

would pick up money from the teachers;

Never lazy, running, through class to class.
