The Curse Of A Superhero

I heard you calling

Dropped everything

To be there

And save you from your fears.

But you did not know it was me.

I envisioned you crying

Left everything

To be there

And wipe away your tears.

But you did not know it was me.

To be there and be strong-

The curse of a hero.

Always there for the world.

Nobody here-

To share my fears and tears.

But I have to go on...

This illusive mask

Allures you to believe

That I am all things

You ever want to be.

But you did not look closer-

Behind it- was me.

This flashy cape

Tells you with conviction

That I can do all things

With a touch of perfection.

You are not paying attention-

Wearing it- was me.

To be an envoy of hope-

The curse of a hero.

Down with my fancy costume,

Lies a woman- Spartan.

But still vulnerable.

And I must go on...

Alone, with the world-

Is the curse of a hero.

Down with all things

Is an ordinary woman.

An ordinary servant-

Fulfilling her mission.

And so heroes are made

To live their life and do their stuff.

Not much different

From anyone else

Except for the stylish costumes-

The greatest curse of heroes.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by a new TV fantasy series "Darna".Why must superheroes wear masks or keep a secret identity? What are they hiding? Why should they? Look beyond what your eyes can see.
