At The Need For Repentance Considered

I saw a bully knock a little girl
down to the pavement, where she scraped her knee
and both elbows.  The injuries made her cry
of course.  I knew this random circumstance
became, some how, a sign Christ sent to me.
to by-pass shrill excuses I might hurl
(with small thought and huge pride) to justify
my part-time meanness.  But, a second chance
is not to be obstructed or ignored.
Sharp tones, hard words, even a silent frown
are what I used to fracture our accord.
Convicted, I repent of my behavior
and pray, upon my knees before the Savior:

never, ever, again to knock you down.  [ * ]

Author's Notes/Comments:

The phrase "knock you down" is meant symbolically of my verbal indiscretions.  I would never, ever, knock her down physically.
