Fallen soldier

He told of his sad stories

The war, his friends, and horrors

They linger in his memories

He was a brave and worthy soldier

His journal we did find

Written neatly and somewhat faded

He spoke his opinionated mind

Soldiers falling all around him

The thoughts of his family

Worried and sad

He already knew

The war was getting bad

Not enough information

Showed on the NEWS or CNN

The deaths, the blood

Only one thing on his mind

his daughter saying "I love you"

Before saying "goodbye"

He then closed his eyes

Trying to make the picture clear

Of his home back in America

And his family so dear

He said his last prayers

And then closed his eyes

He again saw the picture

For the very last time

The telegram arrived

For his family to see

His wife did weep

As she fell to her knees

Memories filled their hearts and minds

For now and ever we say our goodbyes
