An Eternity of Longing
An eternity of want gapes before me
Colder than the chilly breeze
That now cruelly grips my heart
Emptiness enfolds my aching body
As I try to recall your warmth
I listen to a heartbeat that echoes your name
Longing pierces through like a thousand flames
And still I wonder how you are
With a soft bed beneath you, where you lay
Do these same thoughts slash
Through the calm of your night,
Or maybe you are enfolded in a soothing perfume
So many things that I can not know
Can not even control
And still, I am wishing here as I lay
That a crescent moon smiles upon you
That unlike this longing heart
You do not feel the biting cold.
That unlike my needy lungs
You can breathe on your own
An eternity of love gapes before me
Longer than forever
Beyond the bounds of my soul.
