All That Remains

The bombs, they do drop,

The rumbling sounds,

A constant shaking,

All over the grounds,

Three hundred years,

We've all held out,

We stand unbroken,

There is no doubt,

The banner still high,

The shields still hold,

I wonder how long,

They'll weather the cold,

Muster the troops,

Continue the war,

I'll never surrender,

Of that I swore,

Beaten back slowly,

With shear show of force,

I'm left with one decision,

One final course,

Gather my scientists,

And all engineers,

Pooling our knowledge,

From all of our peers,

We know it won't hold,

That the shield will fall,

So now it is time,

That I make the call,

Do I want infamy,

Or do I want fame,

What does it matter,

They'll remember my name,

I give the order,

The machine is turned on,

Soon this whole rock,

Will be shattered and gone,

All of us gather,

We open the gate,

Crossing demensions,

Before it's too late,

We cross the pathways,

Come out the other end,

All it broken,

The gear we did send,

Thinking we're followed,

We go deeper in,

A ruined complex,

The price for our sin,

As we keep marching,

We get to the door,

Explosions behind us,

We hear more and more,

Yes they did follow,

So we blast on through,

Tactful retreat,

Is all we can do,

Water pours in,

We swim right on up,

Land off to the side,

I won't drink from death's cup,

Few moments of swimming,

Now on the land,

We look for a place,

To make up our stand,

Hiding in bushes,

Prepare to attack,

They go off elsewhere,

With strength they don't lack,

My name is William,

I've stood here before,

I tell you the story,

Of the days long and yore,

Listen here closely,

For threat of repeat,

Never abandon,

Your honour complete,

Sometime I miss it,

The house that I built,

In the city destroyed,

My strange cousins kilt,

I remember their laughter,

Yet they stayed behind,

To cover our retreat,

They made up their mind,

So now I sit wondering,

All these years gone,

Was it all me,

Who led them all wrong,
