Prose Poem

Wine, one of my grandfather’s lessons.

Purple lips, purple tongue, and purple teeth, that´s the image that will stay forever with me when I think about my grandfather. My grandfather´s name is Alvaro and he is one of the biggest lovers of wine I can think of. He can tell you anything you want to know about wines. Actually he can tell you anything you want to know. He is one of the wisest persons I´ve ever known. He know every single detail about world history, he can tell you all the line of emperors of Russia in a minute or he can tell you everything about the conquest of Cuba.

Of course you will always find him reading in his living room with a glass of wine, and although he is eighty-five years old, he will always make time to learn something new. For me it´s really funny how he always has a stain of wine in some part of his clothing and with that comes my grandmother scolding him and making him change because he doesn´t look presentable.

My grandfather is known for being really nice and friendly. He has friends all over the world, and that makes it easier to have an excuse to travel the world. He is always saying he is going to visit some friends over in Denver or in California or also from Italy and Spain, and in some trips he will take us with him.

As he travels all around the world, one of the most important things besides learning about the culture and history is the wine. He actually makes his travel itinerary based on where he is going to taste a new wine. He even has a group of friends his “wine buddies” called “El Chupe” they even designed some logos and had made some uniforms for when they travel. His uniform consists of khaki pants a white polo and a green jacket for me it´s really adorable but as my dad sees it´s ridiculous.

I´m really proud to say that one of my greatest heritage from my grandfather is the love to learn new things and of course to learn the taste of new wines. Besides that he taught me to always give the best of me and to never give up. He would always support us on following our dreams, no matter how crazy they were. Above all he taught us about enjoying life, no matter in what conditions you are.

I consider myself lucky to have met and live with one of the best people this world will have.
