After the end

Under the dark sky, surrounded by the heavy air Mother Nature finished what she once created. It would happen someday. Volcanoes exploding in the 5 continents, earthquakes dividing entire valleys, trees falling like leaves in autumn. When the last tree fell down, survivors emerged from the ground. Some species were able to keep their life after the absolute destruction.  A lion left the cave where they were hidden. Monkeys, with their superior intelligence created a shelter that kept them alive. Some small animals, like rats, squirrels, ferrets and rabbits found a safe place underground. Finally, some ants emerged from their anthill and contemplated the awesome but terrifying scene.

Panic started to affect some species. Not only because their home was destroyed or even the entire environment, but also there was no food, no water, no place to rest. The order was gone, anarchy would lead them from that instant. The lion was the first to say a word

“I’m your king, and for survive, I’m gonna eat you all, so please make a line in front of me”, said the king of the jungle before an imperative voice interrupted the message.

“Not anymore Mr. Laziness, now we are the leaders. We are smarter than anyone here and from now and forever you will serve to us.” Said a big chimpanzee that was at the top of a big rock like feeling powerful. Then, some other animals joined the discussion, but everyone stopped when a shy voice sounded from the ground. A little ant dared to give her opinion.

“There’s no time to argue. We’re lack of food and water, so I propose to work as a team and plant some trees, look for some water and build a ….”

“Wait! I don’t receive orders from an insect, and I’ won’t work with this dumb animals, they are just food for me.” Shouted the big lion while was leaving the place.

“We are superior, we have thumbs” replied the chimpanzee to the ant. “We don’t need any help to survive.” Once he finished talking, chimps turned around and got lost into the fog.

All the other animals acceded to help each other, just like the little ant proposed. Ants have been working in teams for thousands of years, so they were able to build an enormous anthill where they and other rodents could live and be safe.

Time passed and, when the lion returned to the place, starving, thirsty, and ill, nobody was there. Lion died just as he wanted: alone.

Chimps, even with their thumbs, couldn’t survive to the lack of food, and finally died one by one.
