We held on for as long as we could

We tried to make it last, maybe a bit longer than we should

We tried to beat the obstacles, overcome the odds

We were beaten by the powerful gods



We thought the heavens were on our side

But if you look you will see they hide

They took our love, they took it away

Put our love on its wings and flew away



Now all that is left are a million tiny ashes

The ends of all the broken matches

Lost still in the sands

Hearts we drew with our hands



The stars stopped shining in the night

Now there is a lack of light

In fear we hold the covers tight

Hoping it will all be alright



But as time goes on and things stay the same

We wonder who is the one to blame

Can we put it on mistaken fate

and pray that it is not too late



The days are closing in

We are trying hard not to lose ourselves within

We are holding on but we better let go

Maybe it will work out better than we both know
