you almost have

to drink beer & whiskey

when you’re listening

to Tom Waits

I think, it might,

even be a law,

I’m just not sure

but, of course,

Tom Waits humor

doesn’t really play well

to a crowd that

doesn’t know who Tom Waits is

and that’s really

the problem

with this sort

of pompous elitism

People can’t respond

or be impressed

simply because they don’t know

what you’re talking about

but I guess

it makes some people

feel smart and superior

at least it does for me
