SWEET FRUIT GREW ON A NEIGHBOR'S TREE

I ate mulberries

and constantly got scolded

It could be poison

You could get sick

They might be dangerous

Yet the sweet fruit

grew on a neighbor’s tree

and branches

ignored the fence

hanging over my yard.

It was a little treat

every June

sneak out and snag

a few mulberries

from the branches

I still eat them today

and listen to pundits

proclaiming the risk

It hasn’t killed me yet

or made me stronger

but it still provides

a pleasant treat in summer

Fruit Trees

We had the best pear tree. Only cherry trees in the block. My grandma had only peach tree, plums and apples were the neighbor's for raiding. Great blossoms!
