I’m at my table

waiting for my turn to read

at the open reading

and a horrible tragedy

occurs before my eyes

the cute Asian ladies are leaving

and before

I got my chance to read

I was like,

“Ladies, Ladies,

Where are you going?

The real fun has yet to begin.”

but it was in vain

as they determined

to leave and go home

I was stuck

instead of reading

to cute Asian ladies

reading to a crew

of staggering drunks—

I mean poets.

It took the wind

out of my sails

before I even got to sea
