BLACKBERRY BRANDY

I was young once and I remember those shots of Jacquin’s Blackberry Brandy at 3:00am to cap off an otherwise unspectacular night.  The proper melancholic mood set by the droning of wise poetics from Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits.  Jasmine incense intertwines with the fragrance of Sher Bidis.  The empty beer bottles can on the bureau can be tossed into the recycle bucket tomorrow afternoon.  The alarm clock is still ticking along.  A poster of Led Zeppelin scotch taped to wall keeps falling down.  I was always told thumb tacks worked better but I was too cheap to make the plunge.  I’d count the money on the bureau.  There was never enough to make the next move.

But always enough

to pour the next final shot

and succumb to dreams
