a legal pad 

with detachable pages

so now original poems

can go off on their own

without the spiral as chaperone

It doesn’t seem to happen

on this page or the next

It just needs to have

the potential to be wrought

They say beer is best consumed

and poetry is best written freely

but that ain’t happening

so we’ll move right along

It’s a weekend

and there’s a holiday

It’s supposed to be 

at very least a little crazy

So let’s hope for the magic

to rise from the ink

wrestled from the pen

and scratched onto this page.
