I’m not gonna rush
thru life in a frenzy
like a rabid dog
to wake up one morning
and realize that 20 years
of my life have
gone by in a blur
I’m not gonna
hallucinate other realities
that other people
wish to impose on me
I watch TV images
of hollow men and women
scurrying about like rats
and they’re trying
to create a new life
and they don’t realize
that they’re already dead;
that they’ve already
given up much more
than they’ll ever receive
