Those ugly 12 minutes

of waiting

and desperately waiting

with tepid fingers shaking

listening to the cries

of the coffee machine

churning, churning

percolating those grounds

into the first coffee

of the morning.

Those bleary eyes

just staring hopefully

that weary body

and dreary brain

wanting to wake up

but it’s never quick enough
