EIGHT MINUTES BEFORE ARRIVAL

So what else

to do?

Just look out

the window of the train:

trash abounds;

buildings crumple;

a few rats scurry about.

& I think

Welcome to the big city

as urban decay

surrounding me

invokes depression.

We’ll get there soon

and attempt to mend

the fallen dreams of grandeur

& resurrect the vision

of humanity’s best

and last great hope.

Downtown Detroit

Gentrification, prices of buildings skyrocked hundreds of percentages in a few years. Last chance for anyone who lived there before the city was "discovered". San Francisco, same phenomena. Kids of suburbanites and gated community kids want music and art - the cities will evolve.

funny how it applies to so

funny how it applies to so many cities.  I was riding a SEPTA train into Philly when writing this piece.
