The stray calico cat

that runs through my yard 

and effectively kills off

legions of invading field voles

is a new mommie.

She had her kittens

and she’s taken shelter

hiding under a bunch 

of camping equipment 

& canopies.

She’s hissing at me

every time I walk by. 

My dog wants to bother her

every time we go outside

to do his business.

I didn’t have any cat food

so I gave her a can of pink salmon 

and some water.

I noticed some holes

in the yard.

The voles are making their move.

Soon I’ll have reinforcements.

It will be a long summer 

for those unsuspecting voles.
