A Difference In Time
little girl six years old
walks up to the door of a new home
she passes by all the old history and prayers
and opens a great door to an old world
the ancient room was filled with books
her mother had lived here before and she is back home again
but none of it is the same
the girls mother picks up a book and her tears fall on the cover
she whispers to the little girl "this was your fathers"
they had come home from the war
a pregnant mother trying to find her baby's father
and that baby girl six years later is home
she never knew him and never will
the mother worries how she'll get by but doesnt tell her daughter
she's alone in an unfamiliar place where its cold and she's scared
she wants to leave but her memories keep her here
all she has left of him is their daughter
she looks at their angel with tears in her eyes
and her little girl says
mommy dont cry ill hold u forever
daddy may be gone but we have each other
dont worry mommy everything will be alright
please dont cry anymore tonight
daddys looking down on us right now
and we'll see him again some how
he wouldnt want u too cry mommy
and even if ill never know him
im sure he would be my best friend
the pain in her mother's eyes caused the little girl to cry
its been six years since his death and she knows their love will never die
her mother tells her stories of when they were young
they were so in love
then he had to go in the army
she shouldnt have let him go
he never came home
her mother wept on the doorstep
in the halls and in their room
his life was taken too soon
they would have had a long life together
that they didnt get to live
now shes all alone on her own to raise their kid
her little girl lies awake in her bed one night
and hears her mother say to the sky
why did u have to go
why couldnt u have stayed home
i cant do this all on my own
i need you here with me now more than ever
your death is my fault and i should have never
let you go
why arnt u here when you told me forever
theres a little girl in there that doesnt know her father
do u think she doesnt wonder who you were
even though i do my best to tell her
i can never tell her enough without breaking down
she knows im not happy and if it wasnt for her i woudnt be here
i love her and i wish you would have known her
i wish to see you in my dreams tonight
i need your love to be able to fight
the tears back in my eyes
her little girl walks in and puts a flower on the table
says she found it in her room
her mother looks at her and crys
"maybe your daddy came to visit you tonight"
the mood was shining down
with a mother trying to be strong for her daughter looking up at her face
mommy dont cry anymore
i can feel your heart beating in my ear
is daddy in there too
he'll be in there forever
he"s always here with you
and i will be too
