Broken Glass

You turned and left without a trace,

No final word, no last embrace;

Maybe I’m better on my own,

Learning to stand and face it alone.

You let me go so easily,

Then turned your back so cold on me;

I gave you everything I had,

And loved you more than all I had.

Now I’m in pieces, shards of glass,

Still holding on to what we had;

I thought somehow that we would last,

But some things break… and break too fast.

You said the words I longed to hear,

Then left me shattered, standing here;

No truth, no reason, just goodbye,

And I’m the one who wonders why.

I tried to hold what couldn’t last,

Now all that’s left is broken glass.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this about loving someone who left too easily, and learning to live with what’s left behind.
