ARE WE TRUE TO OUR OWN SELVES?

Innocence,

purity,

and virtues;

honesty,

modesty,

and values;

Truth,

loyalty,

dignity,

caring,

kindness,

generosity,

selflessness,

chivalry,

and volour,

true friends,

true lovers,

and helpers:

Tell me please if you can,

Are any of the above mentioned,

really found?

Somewhere?

I could not find any

except in old library books

and in the hearts and minds of those

who are living their days and nights

in asylums and psychiatric wards

Their every moment like a nightmare.

We are not true to our own selves

Then how can we be true to others

Is the question that keeps gnawing

Me and my soul everywhere.

This person seems vaguely familiar to me! Perhaps shes the one who's foot I stepped on in the grocery line at my local Harris Teeter! Who can say? Seriously though, I loved this, such a simple list yet so filled with profoundly deep attributes of inner characteristics that someone who is deep themselves would deem necessary to jot down. It gave me shivers as I read each one off your list as I'd want those things too and wow to think you wrote this back in July of 2002. For some, the self is cemented long before we are who we were named to be...........you know who!......so why type it?
