You're Never Present

Time will always work against you.
Slipping by fast first then slow,
Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat
A cycle of being melancholic and
Emotionally erratic follows you.
Neurotic is your normal.
You know one day you’re going
To go under and that’s fine.
You’ll survive. You’ve done it
Before and you’ll do it again
And again because you’ve
Perfected the art of treading water.

People will always leave you.
Often for the most messed up
Reasons or circumstances, even if
They don’t want to. The World
Has a way of pulling people apart
And it’s all degrees of fucked up.
The people perfect for you pass by
Too quickly and if you’re lucky
You’ll get to hold on to them briefly
Before they disappear with a part of you.

You will always be left wanting,
Feeling like there was supposed to be
Something or someone else.
You’re too idealistic which is great
When it comes to works of fiction,
But you have to learn how to operate
In the places and parameters of
Reality or you’ll never get anything done.
Fantasy is helpful and needed but
You have to focus on the things
You can touch and change.

Pain will always be present, that’s life,
It’s not up to you.
Suffering is a choice though,
It’s a place some of us make
Our home, we invite others in and
Show them how we endure everything
That hurts. How often we turn
Pleasure into a preferred pain.
