Promise Ring

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you loved me

Days where the luminous sun would scorch our sinful souls and our black blood would belligerently boil

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you needed me

Our toxic tears of joy would help our love grow in our relationship's rich, yet sullied, soil

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you loved me

A period of everlasting bliss and impeccable perfection

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you couldn't live without me

Nights where our love's livid light would shine on our perplexing path and lead us in the right direction

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you loved me

And I reminded you how much I loved you the same

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you were always there for me

A picture perfect scene taken with a corrupted camera and placed in a fractured frame

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you loved me

Days where we would peacefully lie in the field of lies, guaranteeing me that you would be my future wife

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you would do anything for me

Now I watch you quickly vanish from my life

Reality was hiding in the shadows while silently screaming

This pillaged promise ring has tragically lost its precious meaning

Murder our future with this tainted, thirsty knife

Eliminate all the remaining meaning from my life

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise you made to me

A bond that would never break and stitches that should never sever

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise of never leaving me

Now we cover our casket with rusty razorblades as we bid "farewell" to forever

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise you made to me

Assuring me that you would hold me in your angelic arms until the opaque sky clears

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise of never deceiving me

Struggling for my each last breath as we sink and drown in our ocean of tears

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise you made to me

Those rings were supposed to symbolize something more than just pretty jewelry

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise of never hurting me

Empty oaths and hollow words are all I heard while you proclaimed your deepest feelings for me

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise you made to me

We would laugh at the thought of another day, another shade of gray

Just thought I'd remind you of a promise of always loving me

Now we dig tomorrow's tomb at the break of day

Honesty was concealed by the rain clouds, while your feelings for me you were merely forging and faking

All the promises you have made to me are, right in front of my eyes, bitterly bending and breaking

Torture tomorrow and laugh as it painfully cries

Take my poisoned promise ring and give it to someone gullible enough to believe your beautiful lies

Just thought I'd remind you of a time you were planning on being my bride

Now I witness you rapidly leave my unstable side

...The chains once around our fingers have been tossed into the bonfire, now we sprint our separate ways

These infinite shades of gray have me yearning for the joys and memories of yesterday

I was just another disposable pawn in your grotesque game

The rusty rings of commitment and trust turn to ashes as I extinguish our livid love's frigid flame...

Anastasia E. Warren's picture

I understand completely about the feelings you expressed so deeply in this poem. I love how you rhymed everything up so perfectly--it really contributed to the overall flow of it. It's amazing how many people will lie just to reap you for their own intentions... Tragically, most love is based upon want, not need..
