Wish You Were Here

There's a warm sun beating on my face

And hot sand between my toes

The scent of sunscreen hangs heavy in the air

As the breakers pound the beach

Down by the water I can see

A pair of young lovers

Lying there holding hands

With their lips locked

In an endless summer kiss

As the ocean breeze washes over them

And as I watch them there

So happy, so free

The things that are missing from my own life

Suddenly weigh a little bit more

It's the times like this

I can't help but think

About how much

I wish you were here.

The long day is over now

The sun has set

The sky faded to the deep black of night

The lovers have gone

Disappeared, I don't know where

So here I am alone on this beach

Under the glow of the new moon

Here away from the noise

And the city light

In the darkness above me

I can see a million stars

And even though they're so far away

They're all burning bright

So lonesome I stand with all these things to say

But no one to say them to

And it's the times like this

I can't help but think

About how much

I wish you were here.
