First Swimming Lesson

Folder:
Letters to Petula

Today I watched you begin your first swimming lesson at the gym pool.

As I watched you, I thought of your many facets,

A woman with whom I've spent the last 10 years of my life.

Wife, mother, the sultry lover, the best friend, the career woman

In this moment I saw something else, Something I had never seen before:

I just saw a little girl. Sweet, innocent, almost child-like in her joy

Trying something new, you were so excited, I watched a new passion being born in you.

As you made your way cautiously through the water from the far side over to the instructor

You nodded keenly, earnestly as you listened to her feedback.

Then, you caught my eye where I sat on the seats above the pools edge and you smiled at me.

There were no words needed, that smile told me everything.

I beamed a smile back and clapped, my heart bursting with pride and love:

It was a beautiful moment and I'm so glad I was there,

There is now one more side of you to love.
