Veracity

The lilies lied to me again
As though the truth were greater sin
I plucked the beauty from each stem
They shiver cold but won't repent

I gazed upon your stony eyes
Saw nothing there but lily lies
No love within but I still tried
Faith in you's my heart's demise

Now I'm lying to the lilies
As the tears come tumbling down
Jagged torn from ashen cheeks
As petals on the ground

The sunrise lied to me again
As though truth relied on darkness
An empty bed shimmered golden
Lonely, cold--it broke its promise

I gazed upon my stormy eyes
The mirror showed them flood inside
No love redeemed with morning's light
Growing despair is hope's demise

Now I'm lying to the sunrise
As it plummets to the ground
Hiding tears behind the blinds
While one last chance sinks down

But the sun, he didn't lie to me
And neither did the lilies
Only love did lie to me
Tear-stained with new veracity
