Crowds in thousands thronging................ at different places

Different ages,sexes,religions,groups------------- Happy faces

Amusement parks overcrowded food parks, bars overflowing

The visitors are euphoric--------------- their faces are glowing

Some have trekked to some lake ................... begun rowing

Buying pretty greeting cards ..................... for the New Year

Santa is now a forgotten hero.................... a closed chapter

Christ and Durga are walking............................ side by side

Painted actors------------ their roles in countries far and wide

The Kali Temples .................at Kalighat and Dakshineshwar

Hindus visit these.................. like pebbles on the sea shore

Serpentine queues .......... for lighting candles at Jesus' altar

Barefoot pilgrims shuffle to Shiva temples............. from afar

Pious people waking ... at the break of the chilly winter morn

Icy-water bath cleans body and soul........... their usual norm

Lighting up the aroma of "agarbatti"............ fragrance divine

The candles melt away, agarbattis turn to ash,but faces shine

Power of belief, faith .....................has wiped off all the grime!

Author's Notes/Comments:

Durga,Kali= Hindu goddesses, Shiva = Hindu God, Agarbatti= incense stick,Kalighat(Kolkata) Dakshineswar in WB (close to Kolkata) both very famous and must visit for Hindus. So much diversity but the power of faith is one which unites. Just a thought................. If any religious sentiments are hurt I beg apology from the core of my heart.
