where the dog relieved himself bestows
a certain beauty
upon all that it touches.

around Washington DC,

Author's Notes/Comments:
"THE ROSE (OF UNITY)" was written in response to the recent terrorist atttacks on the United States of America. This poem talks about how we,as Americans, should do join together in this time of crisis. I have never been more proud to be an American than I am now, as I see the news reports of how we are coming together to support those who were injured and those who lost loved ones in this travesty. I pray that we continue to be united in the way that we have recently joined together in a kind of unity this country hasn't seen in my lifetime.--T. W. Smith
