chant of a firefly

Look at the firefly so pretty and strong

look at it's pretty tail, my so long.

Fly little fire fly

fly with all your might

Watch the little fire fly as it fights.

Releasing it's flames,

To keep this beauty away,

perhaps man will someday see the way.

Poor little firefly has an injured wing

Soon it'll be with all the dead kings,

as well as all it's lost friends and enemies alike.

Sleep little firefly you fought well

It's sad that you fell.

Soon you shall be a mere memory past,

and perhaps a mere chant...

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem isn't all me. The basic idea came from my friend Kevin Wood.
