Life Without Living

Folder:
Fall'11

We wondered why breathing was the hardest part of life for you.
Why you never moved much, ever
Why you always walked the playground, instead of ran
Why the games of our youth never interested you
Why you played it off, to look cool

We wondered who you were eventually
As you quickly faded from our memories
We saw you walk but you weren't really there
We ran circles around you, but you weren't really there

We wondered why you never talked,
Why you were so pale,
Why the clothes you wore were loose, baggy, and used
We wondered why you never smiled,
When we saw that crooked grin we turned away
We thought, "Not today, nope, not today."

We wondered why we avoided you in those halls,
Why you were the scape for so many close calls
Why it was so easy to pawn pain off on you
Why we loved to do it.

We wondered whatever happened to you once.
When we knew you faded away again, just as fast
We saw you suffer, but you weren't really there
Honestly, we see you everywhere,
But the pain shared by your strained, stale, empty glare..
You're never really there.
