Mantra in a Certain World

All this analysis over kid's games men get to play,

All these philosophers who expound on so much they leave you low,

But my favorite retort to philosophy or sport is

I don't know, I don't know.  I simply do not know.

You see a black man in an ally and he gives you a jump.

You see a white cop and he gives you a warning, not a blow,

Everyone yelling, "You can't understand me."

I don't know, I don't know.  I simply do not know.

I've seen pundits who are payed to have strong opinions.

I've seen movements swirl as if God felt alone.

But after all of this, whether up or down, I say

I don't know, I don't know. I simply do not know.

Wise men say to take what you've gathered from coincidence,

Young men prefer to tear apart and burn than build up.  Watch it glow.

But the older I get the more I say to myself,

I don't know, I don't know.  I simply do not know.

The older I get the more it gets this way.

the more I learn the less I really know.

So that I'm left like an old monk on a mountain repeating,

I don't know, I don't know.  I simply do not know.

I've written for many and now for a few,

I've been around the world and spent time in my home,

I've seen the raw intelligence of inmates, and remember, kid,

You don't really know anything.  You simply do not know.

So don't judge a book by its cover.
Be open to another point of view even when you think that you know,

And be humble enough to admit that sometimes the smartest thing you

  can say is

I don't know, I don't know.  I simply do not know.

Mantra in a certain world

A very honest opinion and outlook, of course we c an't know everything - but an open mind to listen to other points of view and tolerance also; can do a lot to sort out situations. This is the  clear message I understood in this poem you have created. I tthink humanity is by enlarge a practical race and we learn from our mistakes or accidents. Great poem honestly.
