Love As Infinity

The quiet settles in as surface
reflection, subtle quicksand sinking
takes the breath. Life faulters,
knows there will be no light
again at the end of this entity
once named love.
There are dust motes, sand grains
numbered on every beach, an
exact number of attached hairs
on the heads of ten people
in a room, and then there is the sum
of the heartbeats in our love song.
Take a star, any star, calculate
the distance from my emotional state
this hour to the surface of that
star’s best world. A measure here
of sighs at ten per hour of travel
approaches the wonder felt when
you are touching me.

Not surprised

I am not surprised that you can astound me to deeply. Your use of metaphor is incredibly deft, and never (to my knolwdge) takes a false step. As a poem, this is one of the finest on postpoems. As a love poem, it brings to the soul the most exquisite resonances.

Wow Lady A.. what a beautiful writing.
That last stanza is one for the ages.
Simply one of the most breath-taking stanzas ever to exist I am quite sure.
Love as infinity, is a potentially infinite scope of hopes and dreams.
Love.. one of the few ultimate transcenders of all known and un-know reality and mystery.

"The stars awaken a certain reverence, because though always present, they are inaccessible; but all natural objects make a kindred impression, when the mind is open to their influence." R.W.E.

I'm not sure it is quite all that, but thanks. It sounds like you really enjoyed this one...I hadn't written a love poem in a while, thought I'd give it an unleashing and hit paydirt! - Be well - Lady A

Love floats on astral tides
as if the world was flat
and the tides stopped
for a star about to leap
then, rethinking the spaces,
she falls into the pond
and, holding her breath,
she floats.
