What to see and getting around by bus in Geylang and Civic District, Singapore

Geylang Singapore

Located on the east coast of Singapore and housing Malay people Geylang has a significant number of attractions too.  The people of Geylang are considered to be the original inhabitants of the beautiful city of Singapore. However, it is the malay people here who have strived to keep the culture of Singapore alive. There are quite a few charming and historical buildings here which look colourful and vibrant from the outside.

The best part of this place is that the food outlets here remain open 24/7 and sell some of the most exotic items to the people.  These include pig’s brain soup and frog’s leg porridge. If you have the time head to Geyland Serai Market. Standing two storeyed tall the building has been designed based on Malay architecture and houses everything from Middle Eastern products such as medicines, batiks, vegetables, spices, scarves, fresh food and cosmetics. There are also quite a few exotic products like turtle eggs and snakes.

Spread across 3.72 square miles Geylang is originally a planning area and township. On the North of Geylang is Hougang. To its South is marine parade. Bedok is to the east. Kallang to the West. Geylang is well connected by all means of transport in Singapore however, travelling by bus is more convenient and time saving keeping in mind the notorius traffic problem of Singapore. Besides this Singapore is known to boast of some of the best road networks in the world. Sitting in a cab in traffic is just going to make a hole in your pockets.

Bus Nos. 60, 63, 13, 21 and 24 will take you to Geylang – Singapore.

Each of the rooms are equipped with tea and coffee makers and the bathrooms feature luxurious electronic bathtubs and hair dryers. The staff is quite interactive and speak English, Mandarin and Malay.

The hotel also has its very own business centre as well as currency exchange services. The service provided by the hotel was excellent and I found the location to be strategic and a huge boon. Other popular landmarks that are near the hotel are Mustafa Centre, Suntec City, Marina Bay Sands Casino and Orchard Road.

Destination Hotel  The hotel is in the vicinity of the Golden Mile Complex and just minutes away from the busy and energetic central business district of Singapore. The hotel is equipped with a huge swimming pool for all those who love to swim and there is absolutely no need to venture out hunting for food as the hotel features an in-house restaurant that specialises in local as well as international cuisine. The moment you open the windows to your room you will get to see magnificent views of the brightly lit skyline of Singapore.
