One Poem Every Day

What is perfection?

An enigma

An illusion

Perfection doesn't exist

Beauty.

Beauty exists

Greatness.
Greatness exists

But perfection

Is just a word

To describe an intangible impossibility.

A dream.

An impossible dream.

People want to be perfect.
But we won't ever be.
Art is created by people.

Therefore, artists want their art

To be perfect.

Performers want to be perfect.

But they won't be.

Neither shall ever be.

But that is why it is perfect.

The endless struggle

The infinite cycle of work

Never reaching perfection

Is admirable

And exciting

And fascinating to watch.

Neither art

Nor performance

Will ever reach perfection

And that is alright.

It is ok.

The work is what matters.

The attempts to reach perfection

Is what matters.

The spark

The drive

The illumination

Is the real perfection.
One never has to be perfect

You just have to be "on".

Author's Notes/Comments:

4th entry on one poem a day! This was written on August 1st, 2014. I wrote this one while in my audition class and my teacher said "You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be on".
