Immortal Roots

Hey there it's me

your Morning Glory

you might think I'm pretty

'til you learn my story

early in the day

I wake up full bloom

showing my colors

pink, purple or blue

when the sun shines too bright

I'll curl up and hide

but on a cloudy day

I might just stay in sight

at first you'll enjoy me

until you get to know me

then you will find

that you want to destroy me

when you plant your garden

and I start to betray

you'll think me a nuisance

won't want me to stay

for you'll soon discover

as you dig and uncover

my roots are too deep

and I'm not just ground cover

with the hope that I'll leave

you will cut at my roots

but little do you know

I will just grow new shoots

so you'll pull them out

and feel justified

but in the morning you'll see

they have multiplied

you'll keep clipping and plucking

and digging and cutting

but I'll keep on growing

and you'll keep on grudging

you won't want to resign

so you'll chop at my green vine

but still you will find

that you cannot confine

for my roots are so strong

we'll just find a new route

you'll see you were wrong

as they spring up and re-sprout

as soon as you think

you have me under control

I'll wrap my vine around you

and take a stranglehold

even if you burn me

I will still survive

you'll think you have killed me

but I'll come back and thrive

one thing that will work

I have to admit

if you use the right poison

I'll finally quit
