I cannot now cite the source, but I read, or heard, that, at the height of the Terror and his influence, Robespierre actually had adolescent girls executed on the guillotine---their only "crimes" being an aristocratic parentage or familial connection.

I have learned, today, that my poems on peace-wishing have been set too far from the original source.
