My Aunt's Eyeglasses

All my afternoons of my childhood I spent it with my aunt. Since I was 6 till I was 12, I was with her all afternoon after school. With her rounded eyeglasses and her knitting tools, she always took care of me. Every time I got from school, she was there with a tasty meal and her golden glasses. When I got to her home after school she made me lunch, asked about my day at school, and then she told me all about her day too. She made it sure I did my homework and that I was ready for my swimming classes. The times when I didn’t have swimming classes I spent it with my aunt and her golden glasses. We would sit in the living room, while I watched some tv shows, she knitted intricate designs with any kind of thread. Some scarfs, some hats, and even some mittens were part of her repertoire. Every time I think about her, I think about her golden glasses and the quality time I spent with her. I remember how she attempted to teach me how to knit, I always tried my best but at the end I always failed. In the summer, I spent whole days with her. Whole days with my aunt and her golden glasses. She would cook some pastries, do some tortillas or knit a tablecloth. That was my childhood with my aunt and her golden glasses. And trying to remember a family trip without her is hard, I can’t remember one without her in it. From Cancun to Mazatlán, from Guadalajara to San Luis Potosi she was always there in the family trips. The time passed and the time where my aunt took care of me also passed. I no longer needed to be taken care. I no longer stayed at her home all afternoon. I stopped seeing her that often. Now I think about that time, and how boring I thought it was. Without my aunt and her golden glasses, my childhood would have been the loneliest time of my life. I am so grateful to her of all the time that she spent with me. Now I can see how she was always was there taking care of me and making sure I was okay. I think about all the times I took her from granted, and how sometimes we don’t appreciate the things that we have.
