Every Good Thing

How do you write words of love for your Dad?
Whose only fault is excessive modesty and hope?

Who taught me all the normal life lessons,
then stepped it up, to make me a demanding girl.

A girl that expects nothing less than everything,
the sun, moon, and stars, and that's just for starters.

For all of the dances, in the middle of the week,
standing on his slippers, holding his fingers.

Saturdays spent sharing his coveted newspaper,
me on the floor laughing at Garfields antics.

Runs in Point Pleasant Park, with the only guy,
who wouldn't laugh at my red my face, or I at his.

I was his shadow, everyday of my life,
his big helper, and his little snuggler.

The warmth and security of his presence,
made me believe I was braver, than I really am.

The forgiveness he dips into, is a bottomless pit,
rumor is that is where he buried his teenage brat.

Beyond the forgiveness, is the ability to let it go,
and never humiliate someone who has wronged him.

Loving is a passion that comes from his heart,
just like a warrior fighting for justice.
