One first step towards Love is friendship:

a commonality in need, perspective, and thought;

a blending of spirits, humours, and inspiration;

a stated quest for completeness with protection.



A further step is realizing that Love can be real:

one can really, truly love and be loved, in safety;

that old fissures in the heart can be healed;

that old tears, shared, can become stars, hopes, and dreams.



Connected steps lead on in time to Life’s beauties:

a voice that is a treasure, never to be lost;

shared life-notes that flood the heart like sun-beams;

each finding the other defined as an indelible souvenir.



Then the consummating step of complete surrender:

two as one, soul in, soul of the other, in passion’s warmth;

friend in heart, and lover in flesh, God’s perfect union;

an act so true: this friendship grew into love that lasts forever.
